Sort the project before the dumpster arrives
Start in the garage, shed, basement, or spare room with separate zones instead of one mixed pile. This makes it easier to estimate the dumpster load and prevents a prohibited item from disappearing under ordinary household junk.
Usable furniture, tools, sporting goods, and household items may have a donation or reuse option. Saratoga County maintains a current recycling and reuse guide, but participating locations and acceptance rules can change, so confirm before making a trip.
- Reuse or donate items that are clean and functional
- Group ordinary household junk and approved remodel debris
- Keep leaves, grass, brush, and other yard waste separate
- Set aside chemicals, paint, batteries, electronics, and other prohibited items
Use current municipal options for leaves and brush
Yard waste is not listed among Toss Boss's standard allowed materials. Keep leaves, grass clippings, brush, and similar organic debris out of the dumpster unless Toss Boss reviews the material and explicitly confirms it first.
Saratoga County directs residents to municipality-specific yard-waste options and advises checking with the local public works department for curbside collection. That is more reliable than assuming one town's seasonal schedule or drop-off rule applies throughout the service area.
Keep garage chemicals and electronics out of the load
Paint, chemicals, gasoline, oils, antifreeze, batteries, electronics, fluorescent bulbs, propane tanks, asbestos, medical waste, and other hazardous waste are prohibited in Toss Boss dumpsters.
New York State DEC advises residents to use appropriate household hazardous-waste channels for products such as oil-based paint, pesticides, automotive fluids, home chemicals, and compact fluorescent bulbs. Covered electronic equipment also has dedicated recycling options and cannot be placed in the trash for disposal.
- Keep containers closed, labeled, and separate while you find an approved outlet
- Do not pour, drain, or hide liquids inside other debris
- Use an electronics takeback program or registered collection site
- Check current municipal event dates before transporting household hazardous waste
Build the dumpster pile from approved material
Common fall cleanout material can include household junk, furniture, wood, shelving, cabinets, trim, flooring, drywall, and other non-hazardous remodel debris. Confirm anything unusual before loading.
Dense and special materials need a separate conversation. Concrete, brick, dirt, shingles, mattresses, tires, appliances, large glass, insulation, and treated wood are all call-first items because weight, handling, or disposal requirements can change the right plan.
- Break down bulky items when it can be done safely
- Distribute approved material instead of creating one heavy corner
- Keep debris inside the container and below the fill line
- Text a photo before loading anything heavy or difficult to identify
Choose a rental window that fits the cleanup
For a focused Friday-through-Sunday project, the Weekend Special is $375 plus applicable tax with no extra days. The 5-day rental is $475 plus applicable tax, and extra days are $20 per day when availability allows. Both options include one ton; overweight material is $150 per ton.
Before booking, estimate how much time sorting and carrying will take—not just loading. Toss Boss confirms the address, material, placement, dates, applicable tax, and availability before the rental is final.
Prepare the driveway for shorter fall days
Clear vehicles and portable equipment from the placement area, check the truck's path for gates and overhead obstructions, and mark the preferred position if you will not be home. Keep that route open through pickup.
Plan loading work for safe visibility and stop if wet leaves, frost, or soft ground make the walking or placement area unsafe. Contact Toss Boss if site conditions change before delivery or pickup.
